The
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Greenway
Charlotte's Greenway Park trails are truly a fantastic part of our County's Park system.
This is one of
Charlotte's crown jewels.
The Greenway system wraps around the backside of Charlotte homes, as
boardwalks and trails guide you through a thicket of wildlife, trees,
swamp areas, small lakes, winding streams and plenty of wild life.
It
rolls on for miles with multiple access points from various
neighborhoods and designated parking areas.
Defined as linear parks,
they also connect folks with offices, large park areas, schools and
shopping centers.
Currently, the greenways offer over 30 miles of
trails, with more trails being built every year.
We try to walk this every day...as do many, many others.
Every so often, we get a real treat. As was the case this past week,
when we spotted five young deer. We stopped and stared...they stopped,
and stared back.
They were within 20 feet of us. The deer continued
grazing and nudging one another forward through the brush.
We went on
our way.
It's a great little sighting when you live in the midst of
suburbia.
So, if you ever have an opportunity, set some time aside to check out
one of the many different trails provided to you by your tax dollars.
You should be able to find part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Greenway
Park System near your home!
For those of you that don't live
here...check out your own park services. It may be a very nice surprise!
